The A-80S Optical Fibre Fusion Splicer is designed for technicians carrying out optical fibre installation, network expansion and cable repairs. It joins prepared optical fibres using an electric arc, creating a permanent connection with low typical splice loss. Its portable design and rechargeable battery make it suitable for work at customer premises, distribution points and other field locations. Compatible with single-mode, multimode, dispersion-shifted and non-zero dispersion-shifted fibres, the unit supports a range of fibre network requirements. Six-motor automatic focusing assists fibre positioning, while fully automatic, semi-automatic and manual operating modes give technicians flexibility when setting up and completing splices. The 5-inch capacitive touchscreen provides a clear view of the fibre alignment and operating interface. With 300× magnification on the X and Y axes, technicians can inspect the displayed fibre images during preparation and splicing. The screen flips through 180°, allowing the viewing position to be adjusted to suit the workspace. An integrated heating system protects completed joints using compatible heat-shrink sleeves from 20 to 60 mm in length. Heating time and temperature are adjustable, with automatic and manual heating options available. Typical splicing and heating times of approximately 8 seconds and 18 seconds respectively help support efficient work on installations involving multiple fibre joints. The built-in optical power meter and visual fault locator provide additional functions for installation and maintenance work. The optical power meter covers a measurement range of −70 to +10 dBm, with support for 10 wavelength bands within the stated 850–1,650 nm range. The visual fault locator assists with fibre identification and locating visible faults in suitable fibre paths. A rechargeable 6,700 mAh battery supports approximately 200 splicing and heating operations under typical conditions. The unit also stores up to 1,000 splice records and provides USB functions for data export, software upgrades and power output.
